About this tool
What is the Days Between Calculator?
The Days Between Calculator computes the exact number of days between any two dates. Select a start date and an end date, and the tool returns the precise interval — accounting for varying month lengths and leap years automatically.
It's useful any time you need to measure a span of time: a project deadline, a contract duration, how many days until an event, or how long ago something happened.
How to Use the Calculator
- Select the start date using the date picker.
- Select the end date. This should be the later of the two dates; the tool will flag it if you enter them in reverse order.
- Read the result. The number of days between the two dates is shown immediately — no calculation or formula needed.
What the Result Includes
The calculator counts calendar days — the total number of 24-hour periods between the start and end dates, including weekends and public holidays. If you need working days only (excluding weekends), that option adjusts the count to remove Saturdays and Sundays from the total.
The result also breaks down the interval into years, months, and remaining days where the span is long enough — useful for understanding durations like "2 years, 4 months, and 11 days" rather than a raw day count.
Common Use Cases
Project planning — calculate how many days are available between today and a deadline, or between project phases. Knowing the exact day count helps distribute work and set realistic milestones.
Contract and lease durations — verify the length of a rental agreement, service contract, or employment period in days. Legal documents sometimes specify durations in days rather than months.
Age calculation — find out exactly how many days old you are, or calculate a child's age in days for medical or developmental tracking purposes.
Event countdowns — count down to a date (a wedding, product launch, travel departure) or calculate how long ago a past event occurred.
Financial calculations — interest calculations, loan terms, and investment durations are often expressed in days. Calculating the exact day count between two dates gives precise inputs for these formulas.
Health and fitness tracking — calculate days between check-ins, diet start dates, training blocks, or recovery periods.
How Date Math Works
Not all months have the same number of days (28–31), and leap years add an extra day every four years. The calculator handles all of this correctly — you don't need to account for February having 28 or 29 days, or remember which months have 30 vs 31.
For example, the gap between January 31 and March 1 is 29 days in a standard year (28 days in February + 1) and 30 days in a leap year — the calculator returns the right answer either way.
